Enjoy Our Specialties


At Jumbo, you can find a perfect balance among salty, crispy, spicy, and sweet. Our Crispy Fried Calamari is fresh and sweet with a light breading. The seasoning is a combination of saut¨¦ed green rings of hot chili and flecks of red chili paste, with scallions for a little fresh crunch. Steamed Shrimp Dumplings ( also called Har Kow on the manu ), each holds a plum and sweet shrimp, is a lovely start. We offer Crispy Baby Quail, which is an excellent combination of crispy golden skin and tender flesh in garlic sauce.

When it comes to CRISPY, we understand the meaning of the word. You will also after trying our shrimp in shell with a crispy salt-and-pepper coating. It is truly addictive with a crunch and burst of full flavors. It will surely make the palate on your tongue to sing for more. Our House Special Seafood Soup is a welcome and mild companion the shrimp.

Do not skip our crowning dish, steamed striped bass ( you choice of fish selection from Steamed Whole Fish on our menu ). It is fresh from our tank and steamed to a delicate, light texture and sweet flavor that only the freshest fish could offer. It is a dramatic sensation with a decoration of tender scallions and young ginger slices. This is the one dish among others highly praised by many of our costumers.

Another stellar dish is our Steamed Jumbo Oysters with Black Bean Sauce: Giant Vancouver oysters, in a pool of their own liquor, are dotted with Chinese black beans, where oyster salinity and bean saltiness find their peace in unison.

Enjoy Dim Sum! It is wonderful to eat the Bean Curd Roll with tea.


Dim Sum is a particular specialty of southern China, and a daily ritual in Hong Kong. Dim Sum is what you eat while you drink tea. The features of the tea lunch are the various dishes classified as Dim Sum - dumplings of all sorts plus innumerable small cooked specialties, rice and noodle creations, and a rainbow of sugary desserts. Loosely translated, Dim Sum means odds and ends of food, or snacks. It's like hors d'oeuvres but more and it's a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. More literally it means to take one's heart's delight. A combination of both meanings provides a clue to dim sum protocol.

About Us


Founded in 1996 by Kenny and Cathy Leung, Jumbo Seafood has become a jewel in Chinatown. In late December, 2003, Jumbo Seafood extended its service to west Boston suburb by opening an additional restaurant in Newton Center. Originally resembling the grand Jumbo Seafood in Hong Kong harbor, we have obtained our own character in the heart of historical Boston over the years. We have attracted serious attention and scored high recommendations by many Boston publishers as the best Boston Chinese restaurant.


Boston Globe on its January 29, 2004 article said, "With a bar, mirrored walls, a modest wine list, and white tablecloths", our Newton location "is a much different style of restaurant than the Chinatown Jumbo." The author also noted at the end of the article, "A good excuse, I think to myself, to return for more of Jumbo's seafood dishes."

U.S.A. Today, February 2003, listed Jumbo Seafood Restaurant as one of the "10 Best Chinese Restaurants in the United States".

"Jumbo Seafood is Gourmet Greatness", exclaimed PhantomGourmet.com in 2002.

Yankee Magazine on its December 2001 issue branded Jumbo Seafood as "Chinatown's unexpected treasure".

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant was granted "Best Chinese Restaurant" and became one of the winners of Boston Magazine's Best of Boston for years 2000 and 2001.

"Chefs' night out" on the Food section on the Boston Globe ( Wednesday, September 13, 2000 ) tells a vivid story about a group of other restaurant chefs' late Sunday night visit to Jumbo Seafood.

The Improper Bostonian magazine crowned Jumbo Seafood Boston's Best Chinese Restaurant on its July 1997 issue.

An article in the Boston Globe ( December 26,1997 ) stated Jumbo's seafood is startlingly good, "Savory voyage to Hong Kong, via fish tanks in Chinatown".

The Boston Phoenix, June 5, 1996, gave a lively description of many of our dishes, "Jumbo Seafood-Live fish and a light touch can make a restaurant more than just good". It stated one of the standout features of Jumbo Seafood is the white rice which is richly aromatic and "likely the best restaurant rice in Chinatown."
